Hello,

Today I saw there was an update for the GasBuddy App for my Samsung Exhibit II android phone. I downloaded it and it seemed to work just as usual.
However, i've ran into a situation where it will crash for some reason.

When I report Gas prices i like having the "Map" feature of the app open, with the GPS location and the gas station "popups" popping up,
I will leave the map feature open and then normally hit the "Home" button so I can return to it next time I want to report a price.

After leaving the app alone for some bit, the next time I hit it.. If it was left on the Map feature, It will crash... I'll get a white screen and then get the Android message

The application GasBuddy (Process gbis.gbandroid) has stopped unexpectedly.

Then i'll have to open the app again, hit the "Gas" icon then "Map" to have it where i want it. Gets very annoying when im getting near a gas station to report.
----
----

TL;DR The App will crash after i open up the app when the last used feature was the map if i've left it closed for a while.
Exhibit II on Tmobile.

Thanks!

Curious if the crash problem has been fixed. Using the app on Android gingerbread. Crashes my phone anytime
I try to report a price or even trying to use the app for more than few minutes.
Let me know if their is a fix.

.
The 'submission form,' if we are talking about the same screen (with prices, time, comments, and submit button with kbd below), still only shows the top three price boxes on my Captivate with v2.05--same as in past. You have to scroll it down (slide finger up) to see diesel if there is a diesel box.

......and still not fixed in 2.05

>>>Started with 2.03, when the big green button showed up, and no change with 2.04.

Stating it another way:
The submission form is static now and doesn't scroll like it has in every version prior to 2.03. The on-screen keypad has always partially covered the form, as you likely know, but you could always scroll it down to the covered up parts.

I have version 2.05 on my Thunderbolt and have no problems, but I don't use the maps very often. I have put all of the stations that I normally post to into my favorites, and grouped them by location so I can post them by the order of my driving.

jalba,

You've probably checked all of this but here are some thoughts:

If you really think it has to do with the GPS on your phone, you could try disabling all of the location services and then reactivating them one by one. Maybe there is a conflict with another app that is using one of the location services. I guess I'd start with just the Standalone GPS selected since this one is required by GB. If the crash occurs, disable it and select one of the other location services.

It could be that you have another app conflict. You could try to troubleshoot the issue by stopping non-critical apps that are running on your device one by one. For instance, try stopping all other apps that use maps or any of the available location services i.e. VZ Navigator, Google Maps, Latitude, etc. You may have a conflicting app installed.

Maybe your OS or system software isn't up to date? My current Android version is 2.3.3. You can check for this by selecting Settings> About Phone> System version and Android version.

Are you installing the app on your device, or is it running from the SD card? I don't even know if this is possible with GB but it occurred to me that your phone may not have adequate space to run the app.

I don't know that much about the smartphone OS and or exactly how to troubleshoot issues like yours. I guess I'd just start trying to eliminate causes one by one until I found it. There may be others here with more knowledge of your phone and current OS.

Finally, I think I'd write one of the GB moderators directly and see if they have any other ideas.

Good luck,

RG

Sad to say but this crash has gotten worse as I try to use the app. Even the new update issued the 29th does not fix a thing.

The app will crash my phone when I open it with the gas station list. It will also crash almost 5 seconds after I open up the map. It may have something to do with the buggy gps on this phone but at the moment I have no clue what else to do.

Archangel00,

I just got another update today (the second in the last week or so). Are you talking about the update that just came out?

I don't currently have this issue on my Droid X but it has a fairly large screen.

I did have another forced close yesterday before today's upgrade, but nothing since.

No crashing issues for me, but I DO have issues with the latest update so instead of starting a new thread I'll drop them in here.

Can't get to the submit prices button now when the onscreen keyboard is active. Have to hit the back hard key to clear the keyboard off screen.

We do not need the big arse green button taking up even more real estate! What is it with the fixation on monkeying around with this screen so much anyway? Somebody needs to learn "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"!!!

I've also sent a support ticket about this and have tried numerous things including restarting the phone, reinstalling the app.

Now a worse problem anytime I want to close the gas buddy app my phone will restart on its own. Even going to my phones task manager and hitting exit will do it.
It just happened to me twice this morning while messing with the app.
I'm gonna have to stop using it for now until a future update.

I have had a couple of issues since the most recent update too.

I only had one force close of my (Droid X ginger bread) right after the new update, but none since.

The map page popped up by itself once. The phone was sitting on the console stable in an unmoving vehicle and not even in my hand when I saw it happen.

I already reported this to support, but it bears mentioning again. Some of the app awards haven't advanced since Saturday the 12th, even though I've been posting prices regularly.

Looks like the latest GB version is exhibiting different issues for some of us.

I've been using it for a couple of weeks on android Ginger Bread. I've never had a crash. I like the app.

Can't believe no one else has had this issue. Does anyone even use the app? I do and had loved it and installed it since I got my first Android phone.

This latest version really did mess something up. Including the issues above it now also forces my phone to restart every time that it crashes. Sad
