EIA: Big drop in crude inventories, Midwest refineries operate at 99% of capacity

GasBuddy Blog -- The Energy Information Administration released its weekly report on the condition of petroleum inventories in the United States today.

Here are some highlights:

CRUDE INVENTORIES:
Crude oil inventories decreased by 5.4 million barrels to a total of 360.7 million barrels. At 360.7 million barrels, inventories are 9.0 million barrels above last year (2.6%) and are above the upper limit of the average range.

GASOLINE INVENTORIES:
Gasoline inventories decreased by 1.0 million barrels to 202.7 million barrels. At 202.7 million barrels, inventories are down 8.7 million barrels, or 4.1% lower than last year. Here's how individual regions and their gasoline inventory fared last week: East Coast (-0.3mb); Midwest...

I continue to say the environmentalists and obstructionists have stifled the construction of refineries in the misbegotten belief lack of refined oil would wean the world from oil.

It worked to halt nuclear power plant construction, but didn't wean us from electricity. All it did was force utilities to keep old less-safe designs on line rather than replace with modern safer cheaper to run designs. Same for refineries, we could build better, safer, more efficient, but can not due to the red tape.

They are running up the price of fuel, and when they switch over to winter blends which are cheaper it will take six months to get pump prices where they were a month ago.

Pretty much normal operation, for any business that has inventories. The inventory will fluctuate up and down all the time....

Yesterday's news. But just another excuse to raise prices. AZ gas prices are rising daily. Prices seem to always fall very slowly but increase like a skyrocket for the stupidest reasons. I think it's called: GREED!!!!

Getting a bit technical, aren't we? Just so many factors in attempting to set a reasonable price at the pump. But of course the ever-present greed will always enter the picture.
