Winter gasoline: it's no myth

GasBuddy Blog -- It's dubbed "winter gasoline". Some deny its existence, some know about it, some even know what it really means. Many, however, don't really know much about it besides what they hear. For simplicity, it is called "winter gasoline"- the gasoline that doesn't have to meet stringent summer EPA air pollution laws as those laws are relaxed ahead of colder weather.

Many areas across the United States have different laws for emissions during the hot summer months. Air pollution becomes far more of a problem when the heat and sun cause pollutants in gasoline to become far more of an issue. With cooler weather, it's not such a concern, so those stringent laws are relaxed. What's the difference? Many areas revert back to a more similar standard...

To compensate for the lack of emissions and fuel usage along with fowling of engine valves, it is a good idea
to purchase your gasoline where gas stations have a cleansing formula mixed in with their gas. like for instance
chevron has Techron, shell also has one. you would have to research others who have it. a lot of gas companies don't. these formulas, believe it helps those who really live in a place thats cold, snowy,Icy. also not to mention extreme hot climates. Now be mechanically free my friends.

Can you imagine how profitable Gas companies could be without California's mandates on gas emissions.

Caprice: I do it all the time during the cold months in a big ol' 8-cylinder 1 ton diesel. No damage. It prevents diesel from gelling, something you don't see w/ any gasoline. Florida usually doesn't get much in term of "winter" diesel, so I mix my own.

You add gas to diesel it loses its lubricity, how much does that fuel pump cost?

bigbull: you're right. But then, the best way to winterize diesel is to add some gas.

If we could get a standard set of environmental rules across the states, we could reduce the variety of refining and save money.

One country, one blend and prices would drop as well as having fewer regional shortages.

Gasoline is oxygenated with an ethanol mix, it burns cleaner BUT my mpg goes down. The cost of going somewhere is more than otherwise, so leave this stuff to smog filled cities like LA and others.
Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, has a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

Less volatile components are allowed in summer gasoline to keep them from evaporating out of your tank in the heat.

Well there USED to be "fewer mandates and unique blends of winter gasoline"... now you've just set the upcoming legislative agenda for many state governments around the country.
