Fill 'er up, with natural gas

Times Online -- Natural-gas filling stations are still a rarity in Pennsylvania.

But if a study conducted this year by Penn State University gets a favorable reaction from the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, that could soon change.

The commission is reviewing the study that will help determine the feasibility of installing natural-gas filling stations along the toll road.

“The concept of adding liquified natural gas stations or compressed natural gas stations is built on the Marcellus shale gas boom out there,” said Jack Christensen, the director of facilities and energy management for the turnpike commission. “It’s a high-quality fuel; it helps with pollution, it helps with national security on some levels, and we wanted to see if it would be a good fit for the turnpike.”

Get a refill kit for the home natural gas pipeline and fill it up there. If you are traveling, know where your refill stations are and plan according. There are many online sites that have CNG refill stations located across the US for people that have to refill their CNG vehicles. Plan your trip with those stations on the route. To all those that think a CNG or a Hydrogen vehicle is a bomb waiting to happen. Why haven't gasoline vehicles exploded on the roads? It's just as explosive as CNG or Hydrogen or more so! Do you really think the government would allow bombs on the road? Engage brain and think about it! Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! XII/XXII/MMXII!

As more and more vehicles are built to use natural gas OR converted over to natural gas, more natural gas will be used and the price of natural gas will go up. Don't expect natural gas to stay low for very long, the trend for all fuel prices is always up and up! It does Not matter if you have to heat your house with it either, higher natural gas prices coming. Recently, an article on here said that less natural gas will be produced because there is NO profit to keep drilling and producing more natural gas. Less Supply, Higher NatGas prices coming! Big Oil and Big Gas exports fuel and natural gas to other countries that will pay more for it, much more than here. There will be NO price reduction or cheaper prices for natural gas IN the US, so it does NOT matter how much crude oil or natural gas is produced. 'Coming out of the closet' Fred's lousy, smoke and mirrors, lack of jobs, dog and pony show and in the crapper economy, the 'jobs' are Not here. Fred's economy is not improving but continues to hurt the population and the job numbers continue to be down – no matter how smoooooth talking Fred spins those numbers! People will still drive and buy fuel no matter what but it sure helps to have a job too! My current vehicle was paid for years ago and I don't need any new car payments now! I will drive my current vehicle into the ground before buying anything new, used, EV, Inbred, diesel, hydrogen, alternative fuel, CNG, concept and certainly not a Prius, Tesla, Leaf or Volt! Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! XII/XXII/MMXII!

If better engines built for natural gas fuel are developed that may change but retro fitting gasoline engines with conversion kits is a total waste of time and money and you won't be happy with the results. --------------------------------- Sir, your very correct; I once stated months ago; "Careful what You wish for"; many see this as a panacea for all their energy woes. Power is not as good as gasoline, quality of this fuel in cold weather, definitely not great. Remember, the qualities of propane vehs in winter, also no good, you will see the same for natural gas. Due to safety factors, refuelling is not just put the nozzle in and fill up! Wait for it... you will probably not be happy! Actually I am sure you will not like it and regret it. If they follow through, you should be able to easily fuel up anywhere and CNG vehicles will be the wave of the future.

CNG is safer to use than gasoline because of its low chance of flammability. Although CNG is flammable, chances are slim since it is lighter than air which means it can scatter very fast. CNG can only be flammable when the concentration of the air is five to fifteen percent natural gas which is not likely to happen in most cases.
